SALT LAKE CITY. Boasting big city style and glitz, Bricks is a favorite with Salt Lake City's young and trendy set. Indeed, on the weekend, a well-heeled crowd flocks here to take advantage of the three dance floors. Each night caters to a different clientele, and live bands, local and imported, provide the energy to get clubbers moving. Be ready to shake your moneymaker, because standing around is no option.

DOWNTOWN. This four-level entertainment complex, located right in the heart of downtown, is a favorite with young professionals and students from the U of U. Featuring a good mix of live music and the latest dance grooves, DV8 always has something fun going on. A full bar is located on the upper level. Call ahead for an event schedule and to find out about possible cover charges, which can vary based on how big the band is. Since DV8 is a private bar, non-members must pay $5 for temporary memberships.

DOWNTOWN. One of the downtown area's trendier dance venues, the sub-level Manhattan club pulsates to the beat of house, hip-hop, disco and R&B all week long. Dance parties vary from week to week, and it's not uncommon to find charismatic DJs spinning hot swing, big band, or jazz tunes as well, keeping the hordes of beautiful people happy and dancing well into the night. The Manhattan frequently features live local music, so rest assured that there's always something cool going on. Need a break from dancing? Then score a pleather barstool, catch the barkeep's attention, and ask for one of their famous martinis ­ among the best in town. Cover charges vary.

SANDY. An entertainment jack-of-all-trades, The Station is one of the area's best joints for nightlife. A huge dance floor accommodates loyal patrons, and karaoke is a twice-weekly bonanza of performance fun. If singing and dancing aren't your thing, then head to the bar, where TVs are usually tuned to a game ­ NBA, NHL, NFL, MBL, it doesn't matter. If you need food to go with your fun, the menu is heavy on bar fare, along with a few steak and fish entrees. Other pastimes include a games room with pool and video poker, not to mention female oil wrestling and wet tee-shirt contests.

One of the area's favorite country-western dance clubs, the spacious Westerner is the place to wear your jeans, big buckle, leather boots, and hat. Patrons here love their line dancing, and it's not uncommon for the large dance floor to overflow with toe-kicking revelers who know the words to all the songs. If dancing isn't your thing, a couple of pool tables in the back offer a nice (if competitive) alternative. The kitchen produces some pretty tasty grilled sandwiches too ­ great for a late-night snack.
