SANDY. Carvers offers a refined setting that's ideal for a night out with clients or a romantic dinner for two. If it's the latter, ask for a table in the elegant Library Room, where a cozy fireplace and excellent views are sure to win you a few points. House specialties include prime rib that's slow-roasted for seven hours before serving and the Beaulieu Vineyards filet mignon, topped with goat cheese and mushrooms. Be sure to save room for dessert; their homemade dandies are nothing short of sublime.

DOWNTOWN. Sunday brunch is served elegantly, just as it should be, in the Grand Ballroom of the Little America Hotel. Twinkling chandeliers shine upon tables laden with breads, fruits, vegetables, and salads. Use your imagination at the omelet, crepe, and waffle stations as you create your own combination of fillings and toppings. Carving stations feature ham, beef tenderloin, and turkey. Plus, a stunning dessert table promises a sweet conclusion, courtesy of pastries and other temptations.

DOWNTOWN. As its name indicates, Spencer's is a great place for steaks in Salt Lake City. With one bite of the "best beef this side of Chicago," you'll know why. "Wine Spectator" has heaped praise on Spencer's wine list, so be sure to check it out as well. A cigar-friendly bar and an extensive martini list help make the restaurant a favorite with hotel guests and locals alike. Private membership is required and is available for a nominal fee.

SNOWBIRD. Sporting plaid carpets and lots of honey-hued woodwork, this comfortable restaurant surrounds diners with warmth and cheer. Flavorful steaks grab the most attention on the menu; they're all hand-cut and served according to your specifications. Seafood is also a perennial favorite, whether you choose salmon, lobster, scallops, or Alaskan king crab. All meals come with bread, salad, and baked potato, and portions are anything but skimpy. Locals, in particular, adore the restaurant, which has flourished for more than a generation. It's an ideal destination if you want good food without pretense; plus, the drive grants a glimpse of the mountain scenery in Little Cottonwood Canyon.

WEST VALLEY CITY. A popular after-work hangout, this private club features classic Western fare and rustic, lodge-like atmosphere. A cafe serves delicious breakfasts each day, and the restaurant features grilled chicken, steak, and fish options (each one is accompanied by a large baked potato and side salad). The club becomes quite an Old West disco, as 30- and 40-something patrons dance to Top 40 and disco tunes. Indeed, this isn't your father's private club. If dancing isn't your thing, mosey over to the bar, order your favorite poison, and watch the game on the tube. Since Totem's is a private club, you'll need to purchase a temporary membership.
